Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former mentor Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since that period of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
